RELEASE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SKY LANTERNS:
- Always keep water or fire extinguishers nearby; there is a risk of ignition of clothing or combustible materials near the launch area.
- Do not launch in windy conditions that make the launching of the lantern difficult.
- Launching of a Sky Lantern that is torn or has burn holes may cause premature landing and fire at the point of grounding, in any case ensure that the wind is not stronger than 5mph-8km.
- Unpack the Sky Lanterns carefully and in a safe environment, away from any sources of ignition, without tearing the delicate paper.
- Never use within 1 km of roads, or in places where they may be misinterpreted as a distress signal or a cause of hazard.
- Remember that each Sky Lantern is quite large, is a potential fire hazard, and has to land somewhere.
- It is the responsibility of the user to use the product safely. Check the direction of the wind and ensure that trees, buildings or electric cables or Dry Crops are not in the flight path.
- Only use Sky Lanterns in a clear space away from buildings, trees and Power lines.
- Our Sky Lanterns are made from biodegradable materials, usually rice paper, with a bamboo frame, which means they decompose in a short time.
- Before releasing any quantity of Sky Lanterns into the sky, you must apply for a written approval from the Aviation Authority Ireland, indicating the quantity, when and where you intend to launch the lanterns.
- The law also requires that the Sky Lanterns may not be launched within 8 km of an airport or aerodrome. It is the responsibility of the person releasing the Sky Lanterns to have this written permission.
- Launching of the Sky Lanterns should preferably be done by 2 persons. Ensure that the Sky Lantern is fully extended and not creased or hanging sideways. This is best done by holding the top of the Sky Lantern, gently lifting it a 50-60cm, then dropping it sharply and air pressure will part inflate the Sky Lantern. Hold the Sky Lantern upright and have a helper to light the wick. After approximately 30-60 seconds the Sky Lantern is full of hot air and is ready to gradually rise.
- Do not attempt to throw it up in the air- just guide it and let it go by itself, stand by, make a wish, and enjoy.
- Do not tie anything or add anything to the Sky Lantern. Never leave naked flames unattended.
- Keep away from children at all times and ensure that if children are present that they are fully supervised at all times.
- Sky Lanterns are for your entertainment only and should be used sensibly and responsibly. So never attempt to use the Sky Lanterns while consuming alcohol or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Ensure that all spectators stand upwind of the people launching the Sky Lanterns.
- Always wear sensible clothing which cannot come into contact with the flame of the Sky Lantern easily.
- Make sure that you read and understand the instructions before launching the Sky Lanterns.
- If a lantern is damaged in any way, you must not use it. Once a lantern has been lit and launched, it must not be reused.
